Parent Participation

The most frequently asked question about the school is about co-oping:

What does it mean?

bullet

What do I have to do?

bullet

How often do I have to be in school?

bullet

Am I qualified?”

BCNS believes in parental involvement and tries to make classroom participation as enjoyable for the parent/guardian as it is for the children. No special skills are needed except a willingness to learn from your child and the teachers. Classes are well staffed by professional teachers. However, because the Nursery School relies on parental help, all co-oping responsibilities are mandatory and must be taken seriously.

Time Commitment
Parents/guardians should expect to spend two “co-op days” per month in the classroom. In addition, parents/guardians must sign up for two “sub days”, for which the parent/guardian must remain available until class time. Grandparents, relatives and English speaking nannies who spend a significant amount of time with the child are welcome to co-op for half of this requirement. Parents who have two or more children in the school may be required to co-op fewer days in each individual classroom.

Specific Duties
Co-oping adults are required to arrive at least fifteen minutes early to help prepare for the day. When you are co-oping, you are responsible for providing the classroom snack and drink.  You should ask the staff how you can best assist them and the children. You should expect to have fun and enjoy the time with your child and child’s classmates.

BCNS also holds the following events, in which all families are required to participate:
